POSITION: LEAD ENGINEER
Responsible To/Supervision: Manager: D&B Engineering
Responsible For/Supervision Exercised: Multi-disciplinary Engineering deliverables on Projects
Status: PERMANENT
Job Summary:
To utilise a sound technical knowledge of multi-disciplinary project engineering to execute and coordinate the design, procurement support, plant installation support, commissioning, performance testing and after sales service of a project within agreed constraints of time, cost and quality. To assist the Project Manager and lead and coordinate a team of engineers, technicians and/or draughtsmen to accomplish the above.
SPECIFIC OUTCOMES:
1. Responsibilities
- a) Leading an engineering team on a project, interacting with mechanical, draughting, civil, electrical and control systems engineering disciplines
- b) Responsibility for all engineering deliverables and support functions on a project, including all process, mechanical, EC&I and draughting output, within the constraints of time, cost and quality
- c) Responsibility for engineering manhour forecast and budget management on a project
- d) Represent the company during meetings with potential customers, vendors and subcontractors
- e) Interpretation and implementation of Client Requirements and Specifications
- f) Engineering design development based on the company’s design guidelines and good engineering practice, providing cost-effective solutions whilst ensuring technical compliance with client requirements
- g) Responsible for technical clarifications with client, including Concession Requests,
Technical Proposals and Variation Order technical preparation
- h) Preparation of a basic engineering design package
- i) Participating in, and/or facilitating HAZOP/HAZAN studies, value engineering exercises and design
- j) Preparation of a detail engineering design package
- k) Preparation of subcontractor works information for RFQ and order placement
- l) Preparation of technical specifications for equipment procurement
- m) Technical evaluation of vendor proposals on equipment and subcontracts
- n) Approval of the engineering deliverables on a project
- o) To arrange and co-ordinate any supplementary requirements from external consultants, vendors or subcontractors
- p) Planning of engineering activities and milestones during design, construction and commissioning
- q) Preparation of Performance Test Procedure, Commissioning Plan and Operating Manuals
- r) On site construction verification, punching and sign-off
- s) Commissioning (part of team or Commissioning Manager), including documentation preparation, pre-commissioning, cold- and hot commissioning activities and trouble shooting
- t) Performance testing and reporting
- u) Operator training and compilation of training manuals (if required)
- v) Keep up to date with latest technologies, design tools & guidelines and developments inside the Company Group, in the water treatment field and from local / international suppliers
- w) To check and support, upon request, the work of other engineering colleagues in the department
- x) To mentor junior engineers via guidance and knowledge transfer in a team work environment
- y) Writing of technical reports
- z) Compilation and submission of Return of Experience on a project, to the GM: Engineering
2. Quality, Health & Safety
- a) Ensure health and safety legislation and contractual obligations pertaining to health & safety are adhered to throughout the
- b) Read and understand the ISO9001:2008 manual for the procedures pertaining to the Engineering and Projects
- c) Provide project-specific technical input to Safety Officer and Construction Manager to compile Health and Safety Plan for site work
3. External Relations
- a) Liaise with clients, suppliers, consultants and contractors on technical aspects
- b) Interacts with partners and other companies in the group
- c) Produce presentations and/or represent the company at trade fairs and seminars
4. Other
- a) Attend all training seminars pertaining to this
- b) Perform any other duties required by the Manager: D&B Engineering or your designated Project

REQUIRED COMPETENCE AND/OR QUALIFICATIONS:
- a) Degree or Diploma in engineering, or similar relevant
- b) ECSA Registration as a Professional Engineer would be an advantage
- c) Eight years’ experience as an engineer in water treatment, turnkey projects or a similar field
- d) General working knowledge of process, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and control systems disciplines in a projects environment
- e) Proven leadership skills
- f) Communication and Organizational skills
- g) Verbal and written communication skills
- h) Computer Literacy (MS Office, MS Projects)
RANGE STATEMENTS:
